CHARACTER INFOCharacter Name: Eri Ayase
Character Canon: Love Live! School Idol Project
History: Wiki linkAU History: Eri hails from the city of Caldera. Since she was young, she's always loved dance and has been studying and training in it pretty much since she was capable of walking. Her Earthkin powers awoke when she was about 12, which made things a bit difficult for her. Her typing of Ice and Fairy was exceptionally unusual among the Earthkin and Caldera's excessively hot climate didn't really suit her. However, she gained a certain degree of prestige because of it - having always been hard-working and now possessing an unusual and potentially useful ability, Eri found herself being pushed in the direction of the Earthkin Corps. This prompting grew stronger when she was 15 and the war with Gigas broke out.
In addition to the pressure to join the Earthkin, Eri was also struggling with her own chosen path. While she loved dancing, she was always rated among the lowest in terms of skill within her dance school. As she continued to fail to gain traction within dance, she decided to turn her back on it and take up swordplay, working to join the Earthkin Corps upon graduation. However, as the war drew out, her father was injured in the fighting. As luck would have it, his injuries came not long before Union made contact with Caldera. Gathering whatever possessions they could, the entire family picked up and moved along with the refugees to Union.
Canon Personality: Outwardly, Eri is calm and cool, even a bit cold. In canon she is the Student Council president, a duty she takes quite seriously. She puts on an outwardly polite face and is highly motivated to succeed, something that is noticed among her peers and teachers. However, if something bothers her or something occurs that she dislikes, she can be quite vocal in her opposition, and she dislikes being asked to back down. When informed of the school's closure, Eri wants to use the desk of the Student Council to try to enact measures to save the school, but she is told to stand down and this rankles her to no end.
Underneath that harsher exterior, however, Eri can be a very warm and nurturing person. This is seen most initially with her younger sister who she cares deeply about. When interacting with her, and, eventually, the rest of Muse after she joins, Eri does her best to help those she cares about feel good about themselves and accomplish their goals. She's very cognizant to the needs of her friends, especially her close friends, and is equally comfortable leading and following if it will help them.
Where these personalities intersect are where Eri feels important duties lie. Eri's joining of Muse developed through growing affection and respect for Honoka and her group as they fought to save the school by becoming School Idols, something Eri wanted desperately to do but found herself unable to do by order of the school administration. But upon joining, she brought her full intensity to bear. Eri is perfectly capable of having fun and enjoying her time with her friends in Muse but she also sees the responsibility of saving the school and excelling as School Idols to be paramount. As such, she can be extremely demanding - not because she is excessively harsh or cruel but because she has exceptionally high standards for Muse. While Honoka is the group's clear leader and inspiration, Eri is one of the major drivers, working out choreography and assisting Umi in maintaining the training schedule and ensuring it is followed. Eri holds high standards for herself and those around her, and she's not one to back down easily.
While she can have a certain sharpness to her, Eri is actually quite popular among the school. She's highly respected for her drive and her diligence and dedication is well-known among the student body. An adept public speaker, she's able to command an audience and articulate her views in such a way that command respect and admiration. This isn't something Eri will abuse either, she works hard to live up to that respect and admiration and uses it to drive her forward toward greater success.
AU Deviation: Much of Eri's deviation is with regards to her family's move from Caldera to Union, and how it intersected with her personal life. The move caused some definite uncertainty for Eri. On one hand, though she would never admit it, the climate definitely agreed with her more than that of Caldera, as did the relative safety. With her primary concern being her family's, and especially her younger sister's safety, she was happy to see them in an area that was much safer. Her parents decided pretty quickly to stay within Union, and since Eri is not yet of age the decision meant that she too would stay, at least for awhile. Being in Union meant that she truly had no direction in life and that bothered her a great deal. Having abandoned dance, which she loved, and taken up training to be an Earthkin, which she felt was her duty, she had always had somewhere she was going in life. Now, she had nothing, she was in an entirely new place with no direction in life.
While canon Eri is always very much together, Brave New World Eri, especially initially, will struggle really hard with what she's meant to be doing. She will continue to excel at many things and move in a direction she feels is forward, but she will not really know what she's doing and this will weigh heavily on her.
Additionally, with her extensive combat training (something canon Eri would never have even come close to), she is a bit more hardened than in canon. Her demeanor should remain much the same, but she'll be able to apply the cooler, calmer composure to high-pressure situations and make quick judgement when needed. Eri will be less inclined to step into the back ranks and will be more likely to forcefully take charge if she thinks she's the best candidate for the job.
Canon Abilities: Nothing extraordinary. Eri is a normal human with decent dancing ability and above-average oratory capability.
Enlightened Abilities: Ice/Fairy Master of Training. This represents Eri's demeanor and reputation for being cool, even a bit cold, as well as her love of dance. In Brave New World, her combat training is primarily in light blades, and she has melded this together into a highly acrobatic style of combat that mixes swordplay with dance. She would most appropriately be called a Bladedancer.
In terms of abilities, Eri will be able to use basic combat and supportive abilities from her elemental typing. A few things she will excel at are some of the dance-based moves, particularly a Swords Dance effect to raise her offensive capabilities. Initially, most of her abilities will revolve around enhancing her attacks with ice or fairy type and using various short-range combat techniques in conjunction with her normal swordplay. As she progresses and evolves, she'll be able to exert more influence over the terrain, moving over ice as if it were solid ground and expanding ice around the battlefield that she can slide across with ease. She'll have more long-range and powerful capabilties, but almost all her attacks will be physical in nature.
In terms of evolution, her general body temperature will start to decline so she'll be noticeably colder to the touch than others. Her skin and hair will become paler with each progressive evolution, and her appearance will become a bit more otherwordly and fae-like.

SAMPLES-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
Mmm... hard to say. They're important companions, of course, but I like to try to rely on myself more than anything.
-What do you feel your role in Union is?
I'm not really sure. In Caldera I knew but this place is very different. I'm still trying to figure it out.
-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
[Firmly] Anything. I'm not going to leave anyone behind like that.
-What would you say the most important occupation is within Union?
Probably the Sword of the Savior, they seem closest to our own Steel Battalion. I can think of nothing more important than defending your home.
-What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
[She smiles politely] I haven't heard much of it, but I'm sure it's very interesting!
-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Drive. I really respect people who can reach for their dreams and keep pushing forward, no matter what.
-What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
Strength of character and compatible personality are definitely important. I couldn't work with a Pokemon that I can't relate to.
Also dancing ability.-What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
I would think they respect my work ethic and willingness to work with them. I've been told I'm stern, but fair.
-What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
[A brief pause]
Protecting my family. They need me right now, so I can't leave them on their own.
-What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?
[A fairly long pause]
I don't know what my role in Union will be yet, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to learn and excel at it. That is why I am qualified.
